Kylee’s Sweet 16 photoshoot was the perfect mix of rustic country charm, golden hour glow, and a little sparkle from her newest hobby—nail design! I traveled up to the small town of Dewey, Arizona to capture this milestone birthday session, and it was such a joy to document this season of her life.
Booking a Sweet 16 photoshoot is one of the best ways to celebrate your teen’s milestone birthday. Not only does it give them a chance to feel confident and celebrated, but it also captures who they are in this stage of life. These photos become keepsakes you’ll treasure forever.
Every Sweet 16 session is different, because each teen brings their own personality, style, and passions into the shoot. Kylee wanted to highlight the press-on nails she’s been designing and creating, and we made sure to feature those gorgeous details throughout her session.
As an Arizona family photographer, I typically shoot in the East Valley (like Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Queen Creek, and Tempe), but heading up north to Dewey was well worth the drive for two reasons.
First, this sweet girl is actually my little sister-in-law, which made this Sweet 16 session even more meaningful! I love photographing my own family and creating images that let us hold onto these memories for years to come.
Second, Dewey is home to one of our favorite farms—Mortimer Farms! We love coming here any chance we get and my husband and I were able to sneak in a rare kid-free lunch there. He and I enjoyed farm-fresh BLTs and a prickly pear lemonade from the local small-business, AZ Lemonade Stand (highly recommend if you love sweet + tart like me!).
But back to Kylee and her whimsical Sweet 16 photoshoot!
One thing I love offering in every portrait or senior session is the option for an outfit change. It gives your teen the freedom to showcase different sides of their personality and style! Kylee rocked a bright pink top with a white skirt that perfectly highlighted her spunky, playful side. Then she switched into jeans, boots, and a floral blouse for that country-inspired look that matched the rustic Arizona setting.
